Midna Multi-View with Helmet by aphid777 Midna Multi-View with Helmet by aphid777
Finally done!!!! One more item off my list of things to make! :dummy:

I don't even.. this took me so long to finish :faint:  I was losing my mind a little, needle felting all the blue lines and the grey details on the helmet @_@  She's pretty big.. about as tall as Skull Kid with the helmet on, maybe even a little taller (~18 inches).  She has wire running through her body for stability and for some poseability.  Her hair is made of yarn that has been brushed out, and the details are all needle felted directly onto the crocheted surfaces.  Her arms are also completely needle felted because I didn't think I could crochet thin arms and shape them the way I wanted.  AND SHE HAS FINGERS.  Always my least favorite part to work on.  I drew blood a couple of times stabbing myself while working on the fingers -_-  As I mentioned before, this was probably the most extensive needle felting I've ever done.  Many needles gave their lives for Midna to be completed >_>  (I think I broke like.. 6 needles.. ^^;).

Midna turned out larger than I was planning, which might make things complicated when I work on Wolf Link ^^;  I have already bought the yarn for him, though I probably won't start on him right away.  I have too many school-related things coming up :stare:  Anyway, hope you guys like her!

Wow Aphid! She turned out absolutely superb. Seriously, she is SO nicely shaped, and the details are excellent. I don't know how to needle felt at all, so it's witchcraft to me.

Few questions for ya from a fellow Ami Artist:
- Is there a trick to shaping the nose?
- How did you do the mouth???
- I still don't understand how you make the hair fluff so amazing.
- Is she acrylic or a blend?

Thank you!  I'm glad you like her!  Needle felting isn't too bad once you get the hang of it.  The concept is pretty simple.. stab the wool until it condenses and sticks :D

This is only the second face I've crocheted so I'm still learning.  For the nose, I increased a lot where I wanted the nose to be, and then decreased again where it closes off at the bottom.  I then looped yarn in and out of the face to emphasize features like the mouth, nose creases, eyebrows, etc., if that makes sense..  It's a little hard to explain >_<

The hair is just acrylic yarn that has been brushed with a wire pet brush and then ironed :)

I use only acrylic yarn.  I'd say 90% of what I use is Red Heart Supersaver brand because it's not too expensive and the colors are pretty consistent.

Hope I answered your questions!

Yeah woo props for super saver! So good for Amis.

How does your acrylic yarn not melt when you iron it??

And I think I understand the face stuff, gonna try it out on my next faced project. At the moment I'm working on a Kohaku (from your pattern <3), some small Homestucks, some roses, a Catbug, and a Yoshi backpack for a cosplay that I have to all get done by next saturday.

I guess I don't iron it for too long? :shrug:  I also don't use too high heat.. I was worried it would melt, but I haven't had any problems.. yet.. ^^;

Sounds like some awesome projects you're working on! And I can't wait to see your Kohaku! :la:
